Arts Advocacy in Iowa: If not us, who? posted: Monday, May 05, 2008

In the center of the main lobby is an eight-foot high bronze bust of President Kennedy, created by sculptor Robert Berks. As I looked up into this gorgeous piece of artwork, I noticed a John F. Kennedy quote just to the right of the sculpture that seemed to say it all: “The life of the arts, far from being an interruption, a distraction, in the life of a nation, is very close to the center of a nation’s purpose – and is a test of the quality of a nation’s civilization.”
