Live Radio Broadcast: Time Sickness & Public Property
As many people dive headlong into a busy fall schedule, two experts will share their views on our problematic relationship with time. Dr. Susan Johnson will discuss prescriptions for “time sickness,” a term used by psychologist and author Daniel Goleman to describe the sense people sometimes feel that there is a shortage of time or that time is passing too quickly. Since 1998, Johnson, University of Iowa associate provost for faculty and professor of obstetrics and gynecology, has made more than 80 presentations on time management and organization at the University of Iowa and around the country. Benjamin Hunnicutt will discuss how people have viewed time spent on work and leisure through the ages and why we currently languish in a “time famine” with no relief in sight. Live music by Public Property, Iowa City’s up-and-coming reggae band.
Music reviewer Jim Musser says the band’s latest CD What's Goin' Down “takes a politically-charged romp through classic island forms, with rock-steady, ska, lover's rock, dancehall toasting and even hip-hop surrendering to this non-stop rhythm machine.”
