Sunday, May 22, 2011; 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM Red Cedar Chamber Music
Ready for an all-Iowa adventure? Then step into the philosophical milieu of small-town Iowa in the 1950’s.
Perhaps Gilead for flute, guitar and string quartet by Marion-born, prize-winning composer Harvey Sollberger receives its world premiere at the hands of six masterful Iowa musicians.
Sollberger’s Perhaps Gilead is inspired by the novels of Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Marilynne Robinson (Iowa Writer’s Workshop), which spring from her fictional Iowa town of Gilead. Relive the history and spirit of our great state through great new works of Iowa art! Guest artists cellist Carey Bostian, violinists Miera Kim and Nancy McFarland Gaub, and violist Lisa Ponton join flutist Jan Boland and guitarist John Dowdall for this exciting world premiere weekend performance. Perhaps Gilead composer Harvey Sollberger will be there too!
The concert is presented in partnership with Iowa City UNESCO City of Literature and will be followed by a gala reception across the street at the Victorian home of Carey Bostian and Miera Kim.
Artist sponsor is Mary Lou Pazour.
