| Barbara Weinstein Lecture |

Thursday, April 26, 2012; 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM UI International Programs
Barbara Weinstein will present a Charles A. Hale Memorial Lecture in Latin American Studies on “Race, Gender, and Brazilian Regional Conflict: the War of São Paulo, 1932” Thursday, April 26, from 3:30-5:30 p.m. in UCC 1117. This lecture is free and open to the public.
Weinstein’s research explores questions of labor, gender, race, and political economy in postcolonial Latin America, particularly Brazil. Her work-in-progress, “The Color of Modernity,” illuminates the processes by which modernity in Brazil became “racialized” and identified with “whiteness,” even as elites proclaimed their nation to be a racial democracy.
This event is sponsored by International Programs, the Latin American Studies Program, and the Department of History in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
