Kuniyoshi: Politics, Comics and the Artist
Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797-1861) was one of the last great masters of the Japanese ukiyo-e style of woodblock prints and painting. As an artist of the people, during this two-session course we examine the work in the context of his time and what it tells us about Japanese society. Through the biography of Kuniyoshi, you learn about the artist’s ideas, style, goals, and humor.
